Tuesday, May 12, 2009

Nurses at the Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH) on Tuesday observed the Nurse Day to mark the birth anniversary of the 'Lady with the Lamp', otherwise known as Florence Nightingale, and the founder of the first college for nurses. The program was inaugurated by the hospital Deputy Superintendent Dr. R. K. Singh with the cutting of a cake in honor of Florence Nightingale.Singh said that Nightingale, even after her death nearly a hundred years ago, continued to remain an inspiration for all the nurses around the world and the students of nursing would do themselves a huge favor by emulating the life and philosophy of the woman whose compassion for war-injured was angelic.Dealing with sick patients, frustrated, sometimes even angry, family members, the nurses, in a much-needed reprieve, had a great time with old film songs playing in the background. The event was attended by a number of doctors, nurses, matrons, and hospital officials who vowed to continue to do their duties towards the patients in the most compassionate and empathetic manner.
