New jobs for train manufacturing

Hitachi said the plants could generate up to 500 jobs
Up to 500 jobs could be created in Yorkshire if an international company decides to build a new high-speed train manufacturing plant in the region.
Sites in Sheffield and Leeds are among five locations shortlisted for the new plant by Hitachi.
The company said the plant could create long-term job opportunities and economic growth in the chosen region.
Sheffield International Rail Terminal and Gascoigne Wood, near Leeds are two of the sites being considered.
The plant would be used to manufacture and assemble "super express trains", employing 200 people.
Hitachi said this could rise to 500 if big enough contracts were secured.
In a statement the company said: "Hitachi hopes to contribute to the development of a strong rail industry and infrastructure in the UK through the transfer of high quality Japanese manufacturing processes and skills to the UK."
Earlier in the year Hitachi secured a £7.5bn contract from the government to build the super express inter-city trains.
Once open, the company expects the manufacturing plants to be capable of producing about 30 vehicles per month.
Two of the other sites being considered are in the East Midlands, while the other is in Gateshead.
The new trains are expected to be in use by 2015.
