India captain Mahendra Dhoni has been banned for two one-day internationals because of their slow over-rate in the one-dayer against Sri Lanka on Friday.
Sri Lanka scored a series-levelling three-wicket win over India in Nagpur, Tillakaratne Dilshan hitting 123 off 113 balls for the visitors.
Virender Sehwag is set to lead the team in the next two matches - games three and four of the five-match series.
The Indian players have also been penalised 40% of their match fees.
Following the match the Board of Control for Cricket in India revealed match referee Jeff Crowe has found that India had maintained a slow over rate.
"ICC match referee Jeff Crowe has imposed an immediate two-match suspension on Mahendra Singh Dhoni for slow over-rate after conducting a hearing last night," the BCCI said.
"Virender Sehwag will lead the Indian team in the next two ODIs."
Dhoni, 28, will be unavailable for the matches in Cuttack and Kolkata on 21 and 24 December.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka all-rounder Angelo Mathews will miss the rest of the one-day series in India because of injury.
The medium-pacer strained his right quadricep during his match-winning 37 not out on Friday.
